In a significant move this April, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) invited over 1,300 candidates to apply for provincial nomination. These invitations were issued under the Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills stream, targeting candidates already contributing to Ontario’s workforce.
This marks the third round of invitations in April, reinforcing Ontario’s ongoing effort to address labour shortages across critical industries.
Key Highlights of the April 15 OINP Draw
Ontario conducted two separate draws based on occupation categories:
- Agriculture-related occupations
- Invitations: 315
- Minimum score: 35
- Other priority occupations
- Invitations: 1,024
- Minimum score: 36
Interestingly, about 77% of invitations went to non-agriculture occupations, showing broader labour demand beyond farming and agri-food sectors.
👉 There was a slight discrepancy in totals reported (1,334 vs. 1,339 invitations), but this does not affect candidate eligibility or outcomes.
Who Was Eligible?
To be considered for this round, candidates needed to meet the following criteria:
- Have a valid job offer in an eligible occupation
- Be living in Canada with a valid work or study permit
- Have created an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile between:
- July 2, 2025 – April 13, 2026
Ontario targeted 39 occupations in total, including:
- 6 agriculture-related roles
- 33 other high-demand occupations across sectors like construction, manufacturing, and transportation
This reflects Ontario’s strategic focus on filling real, ongoing labour gaps.
How the OINP Employer Job Offer Stream Works
If you’re aiming for a provincial nomination through this stream, here’s the process:
- Secure a valid job offer from an Ontario employer
- Employer registers the position via the Employer Portal
- Receive a job offer ID via email
- Submit your Expression of Interest (EOI) within 30 days
- Wait for selection and receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA)
Once invited:
- Employer must submit documents within 14 days
- Candidate must apply within 17 days
A successful nomination allows you to apply for permanent residence through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
Major OINP Changes Coming Soon
A major transformation is on the horizon.
Ontario has announced that by May 30, 2026, the OINP will undergo a program overhaul, which includes:
- Removal of current Employer Job Offer streams
- Introduction of a single consolidated stream
However, the province has not yet clarified how current applicants or EOIs will transition into the new system.
👉 This creates urgency for candidates currently in the pool or considering applying.
Why This Draw Matters for Immigration Applicants
This latest draw highlights several important trends:
- Lower score thresholds (35–36) make this stream accessible
- Focus on in-Canada applicants continues to grow
- Employer-driven immigration is becoming increasingly important
- Non-agriculture roles dominate demand, expanding opportunities
If you’re already working in Ontario or have a job offer, this could be one of the fastest pathways to PR.
