If you are also planning to apply for your Permanent Residency then the first question that comes into our mind is that which IELTS we need to give in order to apply.

So, here is the answer to your question.

What is the difference between IELTS General Training and Academic?

The basic difference between both of these exams is: –

  1. READING

In IELTS Academic we have 3 passages and each passage contains 13 to 14 questions while in General exam there are total 5 passages although number of sections are same like three sections in both. Academic reading is slightly difficult than the General one because the texts are being taken from books, newspaper, journals etc while in the latter one it can be from company’s handbook and the wording in that is very easy.

  • WRITING

In Writing module, Academic IELTS has a graph in task-1 while in General it has a letter. Task-2 in Academic, it is generally related to research while in General it is more of questions related to present scenario like society, children etc.

For Listening and Speaking module then there is no difference as such. In Listening module both will have 40 questions and 4 sections while in Speaking module both the exams will have a face-to face conversation of 11-14 minutes however, in some parts of the world, Speaking module is also conducted via Web-conferencing.

BAND REQUIREMENT

Band requirement for each and every candidate varies. Some applicants need overall 6 bands while for some the requirement is 8 7 7 7.
