The Business Start-Up Visa  Canada program is a new Canadian immigration pilot project and the first of its kind. The basic requirements for eligibility for a Start-Up Visa are:

  1. Certificate of Commitment and Letter of Support from a designated business. Applicants must have received a letter of support from a designated investment organization. To obtain a letter of support, the applicant must convince a designated venture capital fund or group of angel investors to invest in his or her proposed business. The Investors’ Association will also be required to issue a Certificate of Direct Commitment to Canadian Citizenship and Immigration, summarizing the details of the commitment made with the applicant.
  1. The Need for Investment. Applicants must protect an investment of at least $ 200,000 CAD if the investment comes from a designated capital fund or a minimum of $ 75,000 CAD if the investment comes from a designated group of angel investors. Applicants are not at all required to invest  money in the Canadian immigration program.
  1. Knowledge of English or French minimum of Canadian language standard. The applicant must be able to communicate and work in English. Applicants must submit the language test results to an accredited institution, and must meet the minimum CLB 5 standard in English.
  1. The Need for Education. The applicant must have completed at least one year of study at a post-secondary institution. The applicant must also be able to provide proof of good standing for at least one year while studying at a tertiary institution. Applicants may provide documents, credentials, certificates, diplomas or degrees as a proof of this requirement.
  1. Adequate Payment, receivables and transfers. The applicant must have enough living expenses to support himself and his family when they move to Canada. The amount required depends on the number of family members who will be accompanying the applicant.
  1. Permits for Security and Medical As with all Canadian migration programs, the applicant and their accompanying family members must obtain safety clearance and medical examinations to determine if they have a security risk or have a health condition that could place a significant burden on the Canadian health care system.

What are the Visa Requirements for a Start-Up Visa Business ID?

To qualify for a permanent residence:

  1. Targeted business must be integrated and should run in Canada.
  2. The candidate must have at least 10% of the  voting rights in the company.
  3. No one else may hold 50% or more of the voting rights in a company.

NOTE: Up to five people may receive their applications for permanent residence based on the same business investment. However, certain candidates can be important in business. If any important candidate withdraws his or her application, or is rejected, all other persons under the investment of the same business will see their applications terminated.   2. Business operations, or an important component, must take place in Canada.
  3. The business must be based in Canada.
