Canada’s work opportunity rate in the second quarter of 2021 was the most elevated on record, as indicated by Statistics Canada’s quarterly occupation opening report.

The work opportunity rate addresses the number of vacant positions as available work, both vacant and occupied. Among April and June, the work opening rate in Canada was 4.6 percent, the most elevated since 2015. The high rate was affected by both the ascent in opportunities over the period, in addition to a decrease in payroll employment. There was an aggregate of 731,900 occupation opportunities last quarter.
