Canada continues to expand opportunities for skilled foreign workers to settle and thrive in rural communities. The Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) 2026 offers foreign nationals a clear pathway to permanent residency (PR) in Canada, especially in Ontario’s participating communities. This program is designed to address chronic labour shortages in designated rural regions while helping skilled workers and their families establish a secure future in Canada.
Participating Ontario Communities
In 2026, five Ontario regions are actively participating in the RCIP:
-
Thunder Bay
-
North Bay
-
Sault Ste. Marie
-
Sudbury
-
Timmins
Each of these communities has identified priority sectors and occupations aligned with their local labour market needs. Securing a job offer from a designated employer in these sectors is the first step toward qualifying for PR under the RCIP.
