October 2026 is an important month for Canadians who receive CRA benefit payments. Five different federal and provincial benefit programs are scheduled to issue payments between October 5 and October 23.
Depending on your income, family situation, province and eligibility, you may receive one or more of these October 2026 CRA benefits.
Here is what you need to know about the payment dates, eligibility and potential amounts.
1. Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit – October 5
The Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit (CGEB) is a quarterly, tax-free payment that replaced the GST/HST credit in July 2026.
For the 2026–27 benefit year, the maximum annual amounts are:
- $679 for an eligible single individual
- $890 for an eligible couple
- $234 per eligible child under 19
The October 5 payment represents one quarterly installment. Your actual amount depends on your adjusted family net income and family circumstances.
No separate application is generally required because the CRA determines eligibility from your tax return.
2. Advanced Canada Workers Benefit – October 9
The Advanced Canada Workers Benefit (ACWB) provides advance payments to eligible low-income workers.
For the current benefit cycle, eligible individuals and families can receive advance payments based on their previous year’s Canada Workers Benefit (CWB) entitlement.
The maximum basic CWB for 2026 is listed as approximately:
- $1,633 for eligible individuals
- $2,813 for eligible families
The October 9 payment is the second advance installment in the current cycle. Eligible workers with the Disability Tax Credit may also qualify for an additional disability supplement.
Eligibility depends on factors such as employment or self-employment income, family situation and net income.
3. Ontario Trillium Benefit – October 9
Ontario residents may also receive the Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB) on October 9.
The OTB combines several provincial credits, including the Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit, Northern Ontario Energy Credit and Ontario Sales Tax Credit.
The amount varies considerably depending on your income, age, family circumstances, rent or property taxes and where you live in Ontario.
For eligible residents, the OTB can provide tax-free financial assistance throughout the benefit year.
If you are applying for the energy and property tax components, make sure the required ON-BEN form was completed with your tax return.
4. Canada Child Benefit – October 20
Families raising children may receive the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) on October 20.
For the July 2026 to June 2027 benefit year, the maximum annual CCB amounts are:
- Up to $8,157 per child under age 6
- Up to $6,883 per child aged 6 to 17
The actual amount depends primarily on adjusted family net income, the number of children and their ages.
Ontario families may also receive provincial child benefits alongside their federal CCB payment.
To continue receiving the Canada Child Benefit, eligible parents generally need to file their income tax returns every year.
5. Newfoundland and Labrador Disability Benefit – October 23
The fifth payment is the Newfoundland and Labrador Disability Benefit (NLDB).
Eligible residents aged 18 to 64 who have a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate may receive up to $400 per month.
The amount is income-tested, meaning people with higher qualifying incomes may receive a reduced payment.
The October payment is scheduled for October 23, with payments normally issued around the 25th of each month.

What If Your CRA Payment Is Missing?
If you do not receive your expected CRA payment, first check your CRA account and confirm that your 2025 tax return has been assessed.
Changes to your income, marital status, province of residence, custody arrangements or eligibility documentation can affect benefit payments.
For many CRA benefits, you should wait several business days after the scheduled date before contacting the CRA.
You can use CRA My Account to check your payment information, benefit entitlement and previous payments.
