Manitoba’s participating communities under the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) have officially released their 2026 priority sectors and occupations. The three Manitoba regions taking part in the pilot include:

  • Altona / Rhineland

  • Brandon

  • Steinbach

Each community has selected up to six priority sectors and 25 priority occupations to address local labour shortages.

What Is the RCIP?

The Rural Community Immigration Pilot is a five-year federal program launched in 2025 and set to run until 2030. It is designed to help rural communities outside Quebec attract skilled workers.

Unlike Express Entry, the RCIP is an employer-led immigration pathway, meaning:

  • You must secure a job offer from a designated employer.

  • The employer recommends you to the community.

  • After community approval, you apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for Permanent Residency.

There are 14 communities participating nationwide.

2026 Priority Sectors in Manitoba

1️⃣ Altona/Rhineland

For 2026, this region has identified the following high-priority sectors:

  • Education, law, social and government services

  • Sales and services

  • Trades, transport, and equipment operators

  • Natural resources and agriculture

  • Manufacturing and utilities

  • Health (newly added in 2026)

Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the year.

2️⃣ Brandon

Manitoba’s second-largest city has prioritized:

  • Health

  • Trades, transport and equipment operators

  • Manufacturing and utilities

  • Natural and applied sciences

  • Education, law and social services

  • Natural resources and agriculture (new addition in 2026)

Brandon’s sector selection remains largely consistent with 2025, reflecting ongoing labour shortages in essential industries.

3️⃣ Steinbach

One of Manitoba’s fastest-growing cities has chosen:

  • Health

  • Education, law and social services

  • Sales and service

  • Trades and transport

  • Manufacturing and utilities

  • Natural resources and agriculture (newly added)

Steinbach’s 2026 priorities closely mirror last year’s list, with agriculture newly emphasized.

RCIP Eligibility Requirements (2026)

To qualify under the RCIP Canada 2026, applicants must meet the following:

✔ Work Experience

Minimum 1 year (1,560 hours) of related work experience within the last 3 years.

✔ Education

Canadian credential OR foreign equivalent supported by an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA).

✔ Language Requirements (Based on TEER Category)

  • TEER 0–1 → CLB 6

  • TEER 2–3 → CLB 5

  • TEER 4–5 → CLB 4

✔ Proof of Funds

  • Single applicant: $10,507

  • Family of seven: $27,806

✔ Intent to Reside

Applicants must demonstrate genuine intent to live in the selected community.

Importantly, even if your occupation is not on a region’s priority list, you may still qualify if you receive a job offer from a designated employer.
